Cricket Bat Size Guide: Which Size Bat Do I Need?
Choosing the right bat size makes a real difference to your technique and timing. Use our chart to match bat size to height — from Size 0 to Long Handle.

The right bat size helps you play with good technique, control and timing. A bat that is too big or too heavy slows your bat lift, pulls your shoulder down and leads to mistimed shots — especially for junior players. Bat sizes are matched to height, not exact age, so start by measuring the player.

Sizing for Junior Players
For children, an oversized bat encourages bad habits: dropping the shoulder, a slow bat lift and mistimed shots. If a child falls between two sizes, choose the smaller one. It is almost always better to size down and let them grow into a bat.
Short Handle or Long Handle?
Most adults use a Short Handle. Taller players, or those who want more reach, may prefer a Long Handle. Neither is better — it comes down to height and what feels comfortable in your stance.
Weight and Pick-Up Matter Too
Two bats of the same size can feel very different. Willow grade, bat profile (thicker edges add power but also weight) and handle type all affect the pick-up — how light the bat feels in your hands. Check the pick-up as well as the height match: you should be able to lift the bat and play shots comfortably without strain.
